When this matters

A review does not replace an expert examination of the substantive issues, but highlights weaknesses in a report that has already been prepared.

Particular attention is given to input data, methodology, completeness of answers and the connection between the conclusions and the investigation.

It is useful to prepare a review before the hearing at which the expert report will be discussed.

Documents to prepare

  • photographs of the property and defects;
  • the contract, cost estimate, work acceptance records and correspondence;
  • the formal claim and the other party's response;
  • if litigation is underway — the statement of claim, court order, questions for the expert and existing reports.

How a construction expert helps

An expert inspection helps describe defects in technical terms, distinguish significant issues from everyday complaints, prepare materials for a formal claim or court dispute, and identify in advance which questions should be put to the expert.
